I started in the world of dogs back in the early 1970's. My first dog was as Black Lab ,that I worked with in our local 4-H program. What a great start to a life time career. I became interested in the Flat Coated Retriever and after researching the breed for two years purchased my first Flattie from the Mandigo kennel in 1980. What a wonderful experience we had together. Am. Can. BISS Ch Mandigo's Magic Of Wyndomere CD. He was my foundation dog for Wyncliff Flat Coats. My husband and I

also raise Wirehaired Pointing Griffons and Silky Terriers.   Rick [my husband ] and I are both Prof.

handlers and members Of the Prof. Handlers Assoc. I serve on the board of directors as first vice president. I am very much looking forward to judging sweeps at your national specialty and truly appreciate the opportunity! Thank you so much for the invitation!

Norma Schaffer resides in Salmon Arm, BC

My life with dogs began early with my father's hunting dogs, a pair of English Springer Spaniels. Recognizing my interest, a family friend introduced me to the Vancouver Junior Kennel Club where I became involved with obedience training. Education and work took priority for a few years, but when the time was right, I acquired a puppy, became involved with obedience training once again and have had one or more Springer Spaniels in my household ever since. I have trialled my own dogs since 1975 and became an obedience judge in 1988. I am actively involved in tracking, obedience, rally, spaniel hunt tests, and the St. John Ambulance therapy dog program. Presently I share my home with yet another Springer with whom I am enjoying all of these activities and have even ventured into the conformation ring for the first time! I hope that each competitor who enters my ring has a good experience with their dog, regardless of the score they achieve.

SPECIALTY OBEDIENCE JUDGE

Joan Sperling - West Kelowna, BC

I got my first Labrador retriever December 1990. He was a big chocolate boy and I knew nothing about training a dog so I got involved with an obedience group.  After getting involved in obedience classes and having our championship at four years of age I was introduced to field work. I was hooked. What fun to work with the dog doing what he was breed to do.

I am now on my fourth Labrador who will retire soon. Somewhere along the way I started judging, WC first and then Hunt tests. I have enjoyed it though there are always challenges. I am looking forward to meeting you and judging your dogs at the Flat coat Specialty.

Yours Truly

I have always had Labrador Retrievers, either blacks or yellows and currently share my home with Eider who is now six and half years old. I am a biologist and have always chosen bird names for my black labs and mammal names for my yellow labs. Eider currently has nine titles which include a WCX and a National Master Hunter Title and several field trial titles.

I have been involved in dogs since 1962 and judged one of the first Working Certificate Tests in BC for the Golden Retriever Club of BC at Deroche.

Good luck to all participants.
